Benisch Abraham [1]

a Jewish rabbi, who was born in 1813 at Drosau, in Bohemia, and died in London, July 31, 1878, is the author of, Is the Moral Law of Divine Origin, and therefore Binding upon the Jews? (Loud. 1842): Two Lectures on the Life and Writings of Maimonides (ibid. 1847): Judaism Surveyed, being a Sketch of the Rise and Development of Judaism from Moses to our Days (ibid. 1874): Bishop Colenso's Objections Critically Examined: The Principal Charges of Dr. McCaul's Old Paths against Judaism (ibid. 1858); The Question at Issue between Judaism and Christianity, and Israel's Mission (ibid. eod.): - בכורי הלמוד A Primer And Progressive Reading-Book With An Interlinear Translation, Preparatory To The Study Of The Hebrew Scriptures. Besides editing the Jewish Chronicle, he also published an English translation of Petachia's (q.v.) travels, and an English translation of the Old Testament.
