Vashni
Hastings' Dictionary of the Bible [1]
Vashni . Samuel’s firstborn son, according to MT [Note: Massoretic Text.] of 1 Chronicles 6:13 (Eng. 28), which is followed by AV [Note: Authorized Version.] . RV [Note: Revised Version.] , following the Syr. (see mg.), and on the strength of 1 Chronicles 6:18 (33) and the || 1 Samuel 8:2 , supplies Joel as the name of Samuel’s oldest son, and substitutes ‘and the second Abiah’ for ‘Vashni and Abiah.’
Smith's Bible Dictionary [2]
Vash'ni. (Strong). The first-born of Samuel as the text now stands in 1 Chronicles 6:28; but in 1 Samuel 8:2, the name of his first-born is Joel. Most probably, in the Chronicles, the name of Joel was dropped out, and Vashni is a corruption of vesheni , or "(The) Second".
Fausset's Bible Dictionary [3]
Samuel's older son ( 1 Chronicles 6:28). JOEL in 1 Chronicles 6:33 and 1 Samuel 8:2. "Joel" may have dropped out from 1 Chronicles 6:28, and Wesheeni will mean "and the second."

vash´nı̄ ( ושׁני , washnı̄ , see below; the Septuagint's Codex Vaticanus Σανεί , Saneı́ ; Codex Alexandrinus Σανί , Sanı́ ): Read in 1 Chronicles 6:28 the King James Version (Hebrew 13) as the name of the firstborn son of Samuel. According to 1 Chronicles 6:33 (Hebrew 18) and 1 Samuel 8:2 , Samuel's oldest son was Joel, and the second Abijah. The explanation of this is that in 1 Chronicles 6:28 the word taken then as a proper name is really "and second"; so following Septuagint, Lucian, and Syriac we read (as the Revised Version (British and American)), "And the sons of Samuel: the first-born, Joel, and the second Abijah."

(Heb. Vashni', וִשְׁנַי , My Strength, or Strong ; Sept. Σανί ; Vulg. Vasseni ) , the first-born of Samuel according to 1 Chronicles 6:28 [Hebrews 13]; but 1 Samuel 8:2 shows that the true reading should be וְשֵׁנַי , "the second," and that the name of Joel; the eldest son, has dropped out. (See Samuel).
