"near, nigh," is used (a) of place, e.g., Luke 19:11 , "nigh;" John 3:23; 11:54 , "near;" John 6:19,23 , "nigh;" metaphorically in Romans 10:8; Ephesians 2:13,17 , "nigh;" (b) of time, e.g., Matthew 24:32,33 , "nigh;" so Luke 21:30,31; as a preposition, Hebrews 6:8 , "nigh unto (a curse)," and Hebrews 8:13 , "nigh unto (vanishing away)." the comparative degree of No. 1, and the neuter of the adjective enguteros, used adverbially, occurs in Romans 13:11 .
"near, close by, neighboring" (the neuter of the adjective plesios, used as an adverb), occurs in John 4:5 . See Neighbor.
