Mattena'i. (Gift Of Jehovah). A contraction of Mattaniah.

1. Two Israelites who divorced their Gentile wives after the return from the Babylonish captivity.  Ezra 10:33;  Ezra 10:37. (B.C. 469).

2. A priest, son of Joiarib, in the time of Joiakim.  Nehemiah 12:19. (B.C. after 536).

(Heb. Mattenay', מִתְּנִי , prob. contracted for Mattaniah; Sept. Μαθθαναϊ v, Ματθαναϊ v, the name of three men after the exile.

1. An Israelite of the "sons" (citizens) of Hashun, who divorced his Gentile wife after the return from Babylon ( Ezra 10:33). B.C. 459.

2. Another Israelite of the "sons" (or inhabitants) of Bani, who did the same ( Ezra 10:37). B.C. 459.

3. A priest, "son" (descendant or representative) of Joiarib, among those last registered in the Old Test. ( Nehemiah 12:19). B.C. post 536.

(1) (2) Two who married foreign wives, one a son of Hashum ( Ezra 10:33; in 1 Esdras 9:33 "Altanneus"); the other a son of Bani ( Ezra 10:37 ).

(3) A priest in the days of Joiakim son of Jeshua ( Nehemiah 12:19 ), representing the house of Joiarib.
