The margin of the Bible renders this title of a covenant God, "The Lord send peace." It was ascribed to the Lord by Gideon, in the prospect of conquering Midian. ( Judges 6:24) It proved so then, and it has proved so in numberless instances ever since. But seen with an eye to Christ, it is eminently blessed; here, indeed, Jehovah in the covenant of peace founded in Christ before all worlds, may, and must be called, in the strongest emphasis, Jehovah Shalom

Jeho'vah-sha'lom. (Jehovah (Is) Peace). Or, with an ellipsis, "Jehovah The God Of Peace". The altar erected by Gideon in Orphrah was so called, in memory of the salutation addressed to him, by the angel of Jehovah , "Peace be unto thee."  Judges 6:24.

Jehovah-Shalom . The name given by Gideon to the altar he erected in Ophrah (  Judges 6:24 ). The name means ‘J″ [Note: Jahweh.] is peace’ ( i.e. well-disposed), in allusion to J″ [Note: Jahweh.] ’s words in   Judges 6:23 ‘Peace be unto thee.’

(Hebrew Yehovah' Shalom', יְהוָֹה שָׁלוֹם , Jehovah gives Peace , i.e. prosperity; Sept. Εἰρήνη Κυρίου , Vulgate Domini Pax ), the appellation given by Gideon to an altar erected by him on the spot where the divine angel appeared to him and wrought the miracles which confirmed his mission; in commemoration of the success thus betokened to him ("Peace be unto thee"); stated to have been extant at a late day in Ophrah ( Judges 6:24).
