(Heb. id. עַיר . a City; Sept. ῎Ωρ v.r. ᾿Ωρά , Vulg. Hir), the father of Shuppim (Shupham) and Huppim (Hupham), of the tribe of Benjamin ( 1 Chronicles 7:12); probably identical with one of the sons of Benjamin ( Genesis 46:21), and therefore not (as often supposed) the same with Iri ( 1 Chronicles 7:7). (See Benjamin); also comp. (See Ir-Nahash), (See Ir-Shemiesh), etc.
