Berechi'ah. (Blessed Of Jehovah).

1. A descendant of the royal family of Judah.  1 Chronicles 3:20.

2. A man mentioned as the father of Meshullam, who assisted in rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem.  Nehemiah 3:4;  Nehemiah 3:30;  Nehemiah 6:18.

3. A Levite.  1 Chronicles 9:16.

4. A doorkeeper for the ark.  1 Chronicles 15:23.

5. One of the tribe of Ephraim, in the time of Ahaz.  2 Chronicles 28:12.

6. Father of Asaph, the singer.  1 Chronicles 15:17. See Berachiah .

    (Heb. Berekyah', בֶּרֶכְיָה , Blessed by Jehovah; also in the prolonged form Berekya'hu, בֶּרֶכְיָהוּ , in  1 Chronicles 6:39;  1 Chronicles 15:17;  2 Chronicles 28:12;  Zechariah 1:7; Sept. Βαραχίας , often Βαραχία ), the name of six men. (See Barachiah) and (See Barachias).

    1. The son of Shimea and father of Asaph, the celebrated musician; he was one of the Levites who bore the ark to the tent prepared for it by David ( 1 Chronicles 6:39, where the name is Anglicized "Berachiah;" 15:17, 23). B.C. 1043.

    2. The son of Meshillemeth, and one of the seven Ephraimite chieftains who enforced the prophet Oded's prohibition of the enslavement of their Judaite captives by the warriors of the northern kingdom ( 2 Chronicles 28:12). B.C. 789.

    3. The fourth named of the five brothers of Zerubbabel (q.v.), of the royal line of Judah (1 Chronicles in 20; see Strong's Harmony And Expos. Of The Gospels. p. 17, note M ). B.C. 536.

    4. A son of Asa, and one of the Levites that dwelt in the villages of the Netophathites on the return front Babylon ( 1 Chronicles 9:16). B.C. post 536.

    5. The son of Iddo and father of the prophet Zechariah ( Zechariah 1:1;  Zechariah 1:7). B.C. ante 500.
