(Heb. Abdeel', עְְבדְּאֵל , Servant Of God; Sept. Αβδιήλ ), the father of Shelemaiah, which latter was one of those commanded to apprehend Jeremiah ( Jeremiah 36:26). B.C. ante 605.

(Heb. Abdi', עְְבדַּי , My Servant; or, according to Gesenius, for עבְַדַּיָּה , Servant Of Jehovah; but, according to Furst, properly עְְבדּיְ , Bondman), the name of three men.
1. (Sept. Ἀβδί v. r. Ἀβαϊ v .) A Levite. grandfather of one Ethan, which latter lived in the time of David ( 1 Chronicles 6:44). B.C. considerably ante 1014.
2. (Sept. Ἀβδί .) A Levite, father of one Kish (different from Kishi, a son of the preceding), which latter assisted in the reformation under Hezekiah ( 2 Chronicles 29:12). B.C. ante 726.
3. (Sept. Ἀβδία . ) An Israelite of the "sons" of Elam, who divorced his Gentile wife after the return from Babylon ( Ezra 10:26), B.C. 459.

ab´dē̇ - el עבדּאל , ( ‛abhde'ēl , "servant of God"): The father of Shelemiah, one of the officers whom King Jehoiakim commanded to arrest Baruch, the scribe, and Jeremiah the prophet ( Jeremiah 36:26 ).
