Fausset's Bible Dictionary

("dunghill".) A city in S. of Judah ( Joshua 15:31). Identical with Beth Marcaboth ("resting house for chariots"). (See  BETH MARCABOTH.) Now probably  Minyay, on the route from Egypt to western Palestine, 15 miles S.S.W. from Gaza, the Ethiopian eunuch's route, traveling in his chariot from Jerusalem toward Egypt ( Acts 8:26-28).

Smith's Bible Dictionary

 Madman'nah.  (dunghill). One of the towns in the south district of Judah.  Joshua 15:31. In the time of Eusebius and Jerome, it was called  Menois, and was not far from Gaza. The first stage southward from Gaza is now  el-Minyay, which is perhaps, the modern representative of Menois, and therefore, of Madmannah.

Hastings' Dictionary of the Bible

MADMANNAH. A town in the Negeb of Judah (  Joshua 15:31 ), named with Hormah and Ziklag. Its place is taken in   Joshua 19:5 etc., by Beth-marcaboth . No satisfactory identification has been suggested. Conder mentions Umm Demineh N. of Beersheba, but does not think it suitable.

mad - man´a (  מדמנּה , madhmannāh  ; Septuagint: Codex Vaticanus   Μαχαρίμ , Macharı́m  ; Codex Alexandrinus   Βεδεβηνά , Bedebēná (  Joshua 15:31 ); Codex Vaticanus  Μαρμηνά , Marmēná  ; Codex Alexandrinus  Μαδμηνά , Madmēná ( 1 Chronicles 2:49 )): This town lay in the Negeb of Judah and is mentioned with Hormah and Ziklag. It is represented in  Joshua 19:5 , etc., by Beth-marcaboth. Umm Deimneh , 12 miles North of Beersheba, has been proposed on etymological grounds ( PEF , III, 392, 399, Sh Xxiv ).

Madman´nah, a city of Simeon , very far south towards Gaza , which in the first distribution of lands had been assigned to Judah. Eusebius and Jerome identify it with a town of their time, called Menois, near the city of Gaza.

For this site Lieut. Conder suggests (Tent Work, 2:338) Um Deimneh, twelve miles north-east of Beersheba, consisting of "heaps of stones, foundations, and two or three caves" (Memoirs to Ordnance Survey, 3:399); but the name has little resemblance.
