Hawker's Poor Man's Concordance And Dictionary [1]

A city of Dan (1 Kings 4:9) Some have thought, that it was the same as Makteosh, which Samson called Enak kore, the jaw tooth; from the supply of water the Lord gave him for his thirst, from the jaw bone of the ass. (see Judges 15:15-19)

Smith's Bible Dictionary [2]

Ma'kaz. (end). A place, apparently a town, named once only - 1 Kings 4:9 - in the specification of the jurisdiction of Solomon, a commissariat officer, Ben-Dekar. Makaz has not been discovered.

Hastings' Dictionary of the Bible [3]

MAKAZ. A town on the W. slopes of Judah ( 1 Kings 4:9 ). The LXX [Note: Septuagint.] reading, Michmash , is impossible. The site has not been recovered.

W. Ewing.

Fausset's Bible Dictionary [4]

A town under Solomon's commissariat officer, Ben ("son of"), Dekar (1 Kings 4:9).

Morrish Bible Dictionary [5]

Station of one of Solomon's commissariat officers. 1 Kings 4:9 .

Holman Bible Dictionary [6]

1 Kings 4:9

International Standard Bible Encyclopedia [7]

mā´kaz ( מקץ , māḳac ): One of the cities of the 2nd of the 12 districts or prefectures which supplied victuals for Solomon ( 1 Kings 4:9 ). It is associated with Shaalbim, Beth-shemesh and Elon-beth-hanan, all three probably identical with cities mentioned (Joshua 19:41 , Joshua 19:42 ) as on the border of Dan. Cheyne ( EB , II, col. 2906) suggests that Makaz may bc identical with Me-Jarkon (which see) in the latter list.

Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature [8]

(Heb. Ma'kats, מָקִוֹ , boundary; Septuag. Μακές v. r. Μαχυᾶς ), a place first named among those designating the district of Ben-Dekar, one of Solomon's purveyors (1 Kings 4:9). The associated names, Shaalbim, Beth-shemesh, and Elon-beth-hanan, would seem to indicate a locality in the tribe of Dan, perhaps in the plain east of Ekron.
