Wave-Breast [1]

( חֲזֵה הִתְּנוּפָה ; Sept. Στηθύνιον Ἀφωρίσματος or Τῆς Ἐπιθέματος ; A.V. in  Exodus 29:27, "breast of the wave-offering") was the breast of the victim offered in sacrifice, a ram ( Exodus 29:27;  Numbers 6:20), at the consecration of a priest or the purification of a Nazarite after his vow; or of any other animal in thank-offerings ( Leviticus 7:34;  Leviticus 10:14 sq.); or of the first-born-offering ( Numbers 18:18). It was so called because waved by the priest ( Exodus 29:27;  Numbers 6:20), and belonged to him ( Exodus 29:27;  Leviticus 7:34), to be eaten by the members of his family who were in a state of ceremonial purity (10:14).
