Designation of Ikkesh, father of Ira, oneof David's mighty men. 2 Samuel 23,26; 1 Chronicles 11:28; 1 Chronicles 27:9 . The Tekoites were inhabitants of Tekoa: they helped to rebuild the wall of Jerusalem, but "their nobles put not their necks to the work of their Lord." Nehemiah 3:5,27 .

(Heb. with the art. hat-Tekoi', הִתְּקוֹעי [in 2 Samuel 23:26; Nehemiah 3:27, הִתְּקֹעַי ], patrial from Tekoa; Sept. Ὁ Θεκωίτης and Ὁ Θεωϊ v v.r. Θεκωνίτες and Θεκά ; Vulg. Thecuites; Thecuenus, and De Thecua), an inhabitant of Tekoa (q.v.), an epithet of Ira the son of Ikkesh, one of David's warriors ( 2 Samuel 23:26; 1 Chronicles 11:28; 1 Chronicles 27:9). The name survived the Captivity ( Nehemiah 3:5; Nehemiah 3:27).
