(1) The Simeonite appointed to assist in the division of the land ( Numbers 34:20 ). The Massoretic Text should be emended to שׁלמיאל , shelumı̄'ēl , to correspond with the form found in Numbers 1:6; Numbers 2:12; Numbers 7:36 , Numbers 7:41; Numbers 10:19 . Septuagint has uniformly Σαλαμιήλ , Salamiḗl .
(2) Grandson of Issachar ( 1 Chronicles 7:2 ) (Codex Vaticanus Ἰσαμουήλ , Isamouḗl ; Codex Alexandrinus and Lucian, Σαμουήλ , Samouḗl ).

(Heb. Shemuel', שְׁמוּאֵל , Heard Of God, the same as Samuel [q.v.]), the name of three Hebrews.
1. (Sept. Σαλαμούλ . ) Son of Ammihud and commissioner from the tribe of Simeon, among those appointed by Moses to divide Palestine ( Numbers 34:20). B.C. 1618.
2. (Sept. Σαμουήλ . ) A more correct Anglicism ( 1 Chronicles 6:33) of the, name of the prophet Samuel (q.v.).
3. (Sept. Ισαμουήλ .) A descendant of Tola, the son of Issachar, among the chiefs of that tribe in David's time ( 1 Chronicles 7:2). B.C. 1014.
