(1): ( v. t.) To direct the course of, as of a ship, where navigation is dangerous.

(2): ( n.) One who flies, or is qualified to fly, a balloon, an airship, or a flying machine.

(3): ( n.) A short plug at the end of a counterbore to guide the tool. Pilots are sometimes made interchangeable.

(4): ( v. t.) To fly, or act as pilot of (an aircraft).

( חֹבֵל , Chobel,  Ezekiel 27:8;  Ezekiel 27:27-29), literally a Steersman, a mariner, is also rendered in our version ( Jonah 1:6) "ship-master;" but in the passage in Ezekiel it is used in a figurative sense for the chief rulers or counsellors of the Tyrians. (See Ship).
