    (Hebo Nach'ath, נִחִת , Rest. as often), the name of three men.

    1. (Sept. Ναχόθ ,  Genesis 36:13; Ναχώθ . ib.  Genesis 36:17; Ναχέθ ,  1 Chronicles 1:37.) The first named of the four sons of Reuel, the son of Esau, and a prince (A.V. "duke") among the Edomites ( Genesis 36:13;  Genesis 36:17). B.C. cir. 1890.

    2. (Sept. Καινάθ v.r. Κνάθ , Ναάθ ) A Kohathite Levite, son of Zophai or Zuph, and ancestor of Samuel the prophet ( 1 Chronicles 6:26). B.C. cir. 1280. He is the same with TOAH ( 1 Chronicles 6:34) and TOHU ( 1 Samuel 1:1).

    3. (Sept. Ναέθ .) A Levite, appointed by Hezekiah one of the overseers of sacred offerings in the Temple under Cononiah and Shimei ( 2 Chronicles 31:13). B.C. cir. 725.

    nā´hath ( נחת , naḥath ):

    (1) A grandson of Esau  Genesis 36:13;  1 Chronicles 1:37 .

    (2) A descendant of Levi and ancestor of Samuel  1 Chronicles 6:26; also called "Toah"  1 Chronicles 6:34 and "Tohu"   1 Samuel 11:1-15 .

    (3) A L evite who, in the time of Hezekiah, assisted in the oversight of "the oblations and the tithes and the dedicated things"  2 Chronicles 31:13 .
