Melchiore Caffa [1]
(called the Maltese), an Italian sculptor, was born at Malta in 1631, and studied under Bernini. He executed a number of fine works for the Roman churches, of which the most esteemed is a marble group of St. Thomas distributing alms, in the chapel of San Agostino. He died at Rome in 1687.
