1 Chronicles 11:36. Kennicott prefers reading" Maachathite," as in the parallel list ( 2 Samuel 23:34).
Hastings' Dictionary of the Bible [3]
Mecherathite 1 Chronicles 11:36 , prob. for ‘Maachathite.’ 1
Holman Bible Dictionary [4]

Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature [5]
(Hebrews Mekerathi', מְכֵרָתַי , gentile from מְכֵרָה , Mekerah ', a Sword , as in. Genesis 49:5; Sept. Μεχουραθί v. r. Μεχωραθρί , Vulg. Mecherathites ), an epithet applied to Hepher, one of David's famous warriors, probably as being a native of MECHERAH, a place otherwise unknown ( 1 Chronicles 11:36); but from ‘ the parallel passage ( 2 Samuel 23:34) it would appear to be a corruption for MAACHATHITE. (See Ur).
International Standard Bible Encyclopedia [6]
mḗ - kē´rath - ı̄t ( מכרתי , mekhērāthı̄ , "dweller in Mecharah"): Possibly this is a misreading of "Maachathite" (the King James Version). It is the description of Hepher, one of David's valiant men ( 1 Chronicles 11:36 ).
In the Wallel list of 2 Samuel 23 , especially 2 Samuel 23:34 , the "Maachathite" is mentioned without name in the place in the list given to Hepher in 1 Chronicles 11:36 . The variations do not destroy the conviction that the list is virtually the same.
