(in this sense תָּו , Tav, Ezekiel 9:4; Ezekiel 9:6; Χάραγμα , Revelation 13 sq.), a Brand or other character fixed upon the forehead (q.v.), hand, etc., usually of slaves, for the purpose of identifying them. (See Slave).
In the case of Cain ( Genesis 4:15), a special token ( אוֹת , Sign, as elsewhere rendered) was assigned him in assurance of safety. (See Cain).
