Josiah Addison Cary [1]
a Presbyterian minister, was born at West Brooksfield, Mass., March 29, 1813. He graduated at Amherst College in 1832, and at the Union Theological Seminary in 1839. He was a resident licentiate until 1843, and was ordained May 13, 1844. He was professor in the Deaf and Dumb Institute of New York city (1832-51), and for a time supplied the pulpit of a Dutch Reformed Church in the same city. In 1851 he was appointed principal of the Deaf; and Dumb Institute, and, after sustaining this relation for one year, he removed to Columbus, O., where he died, Aug. 7,1852. See Gen.
