bishop of Ardagh, was a native of Chester, England, but took his degree of D.D. at the University of Dublin. Of his early life we know nothing, save that he was appointed preacher to the state in 1601. He was consecrated bishop of Ardagh in 1633, and held the archdeanery of Derry, the rectory of Ardstra, and the vicarage of Granard for a year after. In 1641, being in dread of the rebellion which broke out in October, he removed to England, and died in London, Aug. 11, 1654. He was a man of profound learning, well versed in the Scriptures, and skilled in sacred chronology. His works are, Choice Observations and Explanations upon the Old Testament (1655, fol.): — Sermon of the Doctrine of Justification (Dublin, 1625, 4to).
