John De Vesalia

John De Vesalia [1]

a celebrated preacher and doctor of theology at Erfurt and Worms, often confounded with John Wessel (q.v.), with whom he held nearly the same sentiments, was condemned for his theological opinions at Mentz in 1479, and cast into prison, where he soon died. A Catholic who witnessed the trial says he advanced nothing but what might be defended, except in regard to the procession of the Holy Spirit, in which he agreed with the Greeks. See Moshelm, list. of the Church, bk. 3, cent. 15 pt. 2, ch. 2.
