John Bachman
John Bachman [1]
an American minister and naturalist, was born in Dutchess County, N. Y., Feb. 4, 1790. He was licensed to preach in 1813, and became pastor of the German Lutheran Church in Charleston, S.C., in 1815. He died Feb. 25,1874. He was a collaborator of Audubon in his great work on American ornithology, and the principal author of The Quadrupeds of North America. Among his other publications may be mentioned, Defence of Luther and the Reformation (1853) :-Design and Duties of the Christian Ministry (1848):-The Doctrine of the Unity of the Human Race Examined on the Principles of Science (1850): Characteristics of Genera and Species as Applicable to the Doctrine of the Unity of the Human Race (1854).
