Johann Wilhelm Friedrich Hetzel Or Hezel [1]

a German Orientalist and theologian, was born at Konigsberg May 16, 1754. He studied at the universities of Wittenberg and Jena, and was appointed professor of Oriental languages at Giessen in 1766. In 1800 he was made librarian of the University of that city, and in 1801 was called to the professorship of Oriental literature in the University of Dorpat, which office he held until 1820. He died Feb. 1,1829. Hetzel wrote a number of- works on-the study of Oriental languages, the principal of which are Ausf Ü rliche hebr Ä ische Sprachlehre (Halle, 1777, 8vo): Nominalformenlehre d. hebraischen Sprache (Halle, 1793, 8vo): Institutio Philologi Hebraei (Halle, 1793, 8vo): Gesch. d. hebraischen Literatur (Halle, 1776): Syrische Sprachlehre (Lemgo, 1788, 8vo): Arabische Grammatik nebst einer kurzen arabischen Chrestomathie (Jena, 1776,8vo).
