Ithra

From BiblePortal Wikipedia

Fausset's Bible Dictionary [1]

Father of Amasa by Abigail, David's sister ( 2 Samuel 17:25;  1 Chronicles 2:17). (See Amasa ; Abigail "An Ishmaelite" is the true reading; for why state that he was an "Israelite"? That he was an Ishmaelite would be something exceptional, and fitly mentioned in the genealogy. Jether or Ithra had "gone in to," i.e. seduced, Abigail, daughter of Nahash and sister of Zeruiah, Joab's mother Absalom, probably during the sojourn of David's family with the king of Moab ( 1 Samuel 22:3-4). (See Absalom .)

ITHRA . The father of Amasa, and husband of Abigail, David’s sister. He is described as an Israelite in   2 Samuel 17:25 , but the better reading is ‘ Jether the Ishmaelite’ (  1 Chronicles 2:17 ).

(Heb. Yithra', יַתְרָא , Excellence; Sept. Ι᾿Εθερ Vulg. Jetra), an Israelite (probably an error of transcription [see Thenius, Comment. ad loc.]; a Jezreelite, according to the Sept. and Vulg.; but [more correctly] an Ishmaelite, according to  1 Chronicles 2:17), and father of Amasa (David's general) by Abigail, David's sister (1 Kings 2, 5); elsewhere called JETHER ( 2 Samuel 17:25). B.C. ante 1023.
