Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature [1]
a noted English scholar of Jewish parentage, was born at Cambridge in 1709, and after the completion of his studies, mainly dependent upon his own efforts, he became instructor of Hebrew at the University in Cambridge. He died in 1770. Besides valuable contributions to mathematical science, he wrote The Scholar's Instructor, or Hebrew Grammar (1735, 8vo; 2d ed., greatly enlarged, 1757): — Observations and Inquiries relating to various Parts of Scripture History (1761).
