(Heb. id. עַיר שֶׁמֶשׁ , in pause שׁ מֶשׁ עַיר , City Of the Sun; Sept. Πόλις Σάμες , Vulg. Hirsemes, Id Est Civitas Solis), a town on the border of Dan, mentioned between Eshtaol and Shaalabbin ( Joshua 19:41); probably the same as the BETH-SHEMIESH (See Beth-Shemiesh) (q.v.) of Joshua 15:10.
