HORESH . The word hôresh means ‘wooded height’ in Isaiah 17:9 , Eze 31:3 , 2 Chronicles 27:4 , and this is probably its meaning in 1 Samuel 23:15 (cf. 1 Samuel 23:16; 1 Samuel 23:18 ), although some would make Horesh a proper name, as in RVm [Note: Revised Version margin.] .

hō´resh ( חרשׁה , ḥōreshāh , 1 Samuel 23:15 , 1 Samuel 23:18 , margin only; Septuagint ἐν τῇ Καινῇ , en tḗ Kainḗ , "in the New"; English Versions of the Bible "in the wood" (בּחרשׁה , ba - ḥōreshāh ), the particle "in" being combined with the article): Ḥōresh in other passages is translated "forest" (compare 2 Chronicles 27:4; Isaiah 17:9; Ezekiel 31:3 ) and it is most probable that it should be so translated here.
