a prominent Swedish theologian, was born at Strengnas, Aug. 7, 1689. Having studied at Upsal and Altorf, he was in 1719 appointed professor of philosophy at Lund, was made in 1729 professor of Oriental languages, and in 1732 professor and doctor of theology. In 1738 he was appointed provost of Lund, and in 1740 bishop there. He succeeded his brother in the archbishopric of Upsal in 1747, and died May 20, 1758. He published, Syntagma Dissertationum in Academia Lundensi Habitarum — (Leipsic, 1745), containing an account of his extensive travels and researches in the East.
