Graphe Gramma [1]

( Γράμμα , Γραφή ), terms ordinarily used in the ancient Church to signify the Holy Scriptures. They were also occasionally employed as names of the Apostles' Creed,. perhaps because it was gathered entirely from Scripture; or else because it was used in reference to the learning of the Creed by the catechumens, just as the word Μάθημα , The Lesso, was used to designate the Creed, because the catechumens were bound to commit it to memory. - Valesius, Not. in Socrat. 1:8; Bingham, Orig. Eccl. book 10, chapter 3, 7 § 4.
