George Coryate [1]

an English clergyman and Latin poet, was born in the parish of St. Thomas, Salisbury, and was educated at Winchester School and New College, Oxford, where, in 1562, he was admitted a perpetual fellow. In June 1570, he became rector of Odcombe, and in 1594 was appointed prebendary in the cathedral of York. He died at Odcombe, March 4, 1606 leaving Poemata Varia Latina (London, 1611, 4to), and Descriptio Anglicea Scotice, et Hibernie. See Chalmers Biog. Dict. s.v.; Allibone, Dict. of Brit. and Amer.
