Conei (or Cowne, in Lat. Conceus), George
a Scotch theologian, who, while very young, left his native country and went to Modena, then to Rome. Pope Urban VIII sent him as nuncio to the queen of England, Henrietta Maria. He died at Rome, January 10, 1640, leaving Life of Mary Stuart (Rome, 1624): — De Institutione Principis: — De Duplici Statu Religionis apud Scotos (ibid. 1628): — Proofs of the Catholic Faith, in three books, with a Hymn to the Virgin (Bologna, 1631).
