GENNÆUS . The father of Apollonius, a Syrian commander of a district in Palestine ( 2Ma 12:2 ).

( Γενναῖος , i.e., High-Born, but v.r. Γἐνεος ), apparently given ( 2 Maccabees 12:2) as the name of the father of the Syrian general Apollonius (q.v.); but perhaps it is a mere epithet.
