Gaius Conant [1]

a Congregational minister, was born at Bridgewater, Massachusetts, September 6, 1776, and graduated from Brown University in 1800. He pursued his theological studies in part with Reverend Dr. Fobes of Raynham, but becoming dissatisfied with his Arminian views, placed himself under the tuition of Reverend Dr. Emmons of Franklin. He was ordained February 17, 1808, pastor of the Congregational Church in Paxton; was installed, in April, 1834, over the Second Congregational Church in Plymouth; remained seven years, and then returned to his old home in Paxton, where he died, February 6, 1862.
