Francis Duquesnoy [1]
(called the Fleming), a reptitable sculptor, was born at Brussels in 1594, and went to Italy while young for instruction in the art. His statue of St. Susanna, for the Church of the Madonna at Loretto, has been highly extolled. For the basilica of St. Peter's he executed a colossal statue of St. Andrew, which is one of the finest productions of modern art. He died at Leghorn in 1646. See Hoefer, Nouv. Biog.
