Francesco Leonardoni [1]

an Italian painter, was born at Venice in 1654; visited Spain and settled at Madrid; gained great eminence as a portrait-painter; executed several historical works for the churches, characterized by a grand style of design; and died at Madrid in 1711. Among his principal works are a large altarpiece of the Incarnation, in the Church of San Ger Ó nimo el Real, at Madrid: and two subjects from the Life of St. Joseph, in the Church of the Colegio de Atocha.
