Fausset's Bible Dictionary [1]

1.  Genesis 46:16;  Numbers 26:16 Οzni , a corruption by omitting the "b".

2. Son of Bela, son of Benjamin ( 1 Chronicles 7:7). From his association with Iri, a Gadite name, Lord A. Hervey conjectures that both were Gadite families, incorporated into Benjamin after the slaughter (Judges 20), or from Jabesh Gilead ( Judges 21:12-14).

(Hebrews Etsbon', אֶצְבֹּן , perhaps Working), the name of two men.

1. (Sept. Θασοβάν , Vuig. Esebon.) The fourth son of the patriarch Gad ( Genesis 46:16); called also ( Numbers 26:16) OZNI (See Ozni) (q.v.). B.C. 1856.

2. ( אֵצְבּוֹן Sept. Ἀσεβών v.r. Εσεβών ,Vulg. Es bon.) The first-named of the sons (? descendants) of Bela, the son of Benjamin, according to  1 Chronicles 7:7. It is singular, however, that while Ezbon is nowhere else mentioned among the sons of Bela, or Benjamin, he appears here in company with עִירַי Iri, which is, nevertheless, not a Benjamite family, according to the other lists, but is found in company with Ezbon among the Gadite families, both in  Genesis 46:16 (Eri, עֵרַי ), and  Numbers 26:16. Were these two Gadite families incorporated into Benjamin after the slaughter mentioned Judges 20? Possibly they were from Jabesh-Gilead (comp. 21:12-14).. (See Becher).  1 Chronicles 7:2 seems to fix the date of the census as in king David's time. B.C. cir. 1020.

International Standard Bible Encyclopedia [7]

ez´bon  :

(1) (אצבּן , 'ecbōn  ; Peshitta, אצבעון , 'ecba'on  ; Septuagint Θασοβάν , Thasobán ): A son of Gad ( Genesis 46:16 ) = Ozni of  Numbers 26:16 (see Ozni ).

(2) (אצבּון , 'ecbōn  ; Septuagint Ἀσεβών , Asebō̇n ): In  1 Chronicles 7:7 is said to be a grandson of Benjamin. Curtis ( Ch ., 148) holds that the genealogical table there is that of Zebulun and not Benjamin, and says that Ezbon suggests Ibzan ( Judges 12:8-10 ), a minor judge of Bethlehem of Zebulun (Moore, Judges , 310).
