Etienne Francois De Caulet [1]

a French prelate, was born May 19,1610, at Toulouse. He studied at the Sorbonne in Paris, and was in 1644 raised to the episcopal see of Pamiers. He introduced many reforms, and reorganized the schools and seminaries. Though a Jansenist, he took an active part in the controversy concerning the Right of Regalia (q.v.). He advocated the rights of the Church and of his diocese, but without success. He died Aug. 7, 1680, leaving, Traite de la Regale (Cologne, 1680), and some minor works.
