En-Rimmon

En-Rimmon (‘spring of [the] pomegranate’). One of the settlements of the Judahites after the return from the Exile ( Nehemiah 11:29 ). In Joshua 15:32 amongst the towns assigned to Judah we find ‘Ain and Rimmon,’ and in Joshua 19:7 (cf. 1 Chronicles 4:32 ) amongst those assigned to Simeon are ‘Ain, Rimmon.’ In all these instances there can be littls doubt that we ought to read En-rimmon . En-rimmon is probably to be identified with the modern Umm er-Rumâmin , about 9 miles N. of Beersheba.

En-rim'mon. (Fount Of The Pomegranate). One of the places which the men of Judah reinhabited, after their return from the captivity. Nehemiah 11:29. Perhaps the same as "Ain and Rimmon," Joshua 15:32, and "Ain, Remmon," Joshua 19:7, and see 1 Chronicles 4:32.

(Hebrews Eyn Rimmon', עֵין רַמַּוֹן , Fountain Of Rimmon; Sept. Ἐν ῾Ρεμμών v. r. Ἐν ῾Ρεμαών , Vat. MS. omits, Vulg. Et In Remmon), a place occupied by the descendants of Judah after the exile ( Nehemiah 11:29). It appears from the associated places to be the same with the "Ain And Rimmon" of Joshua 15:32 (comp. Joshua 19:7; 1 Chronicles 4:32), where perhaps, in like manner, but one place is referred to, a spring adjoining the town of Rimmon. (See Ain). Yet the enumeration ("five cities") of 1 Chronicles 4:32 ("Ain, Rimmon") requires them to be taken as distinct. In fact, there appears to have been a Levitical city en-Rimmon near to, but originally distinct from the nonLevitical Rimmon, and indicated by a remarkable reservoir still extant in the vicinity. en - rim´on ( עין־רמּון , ‛ēn - rimmōn , "the fountain of Rimmon" (see Rimmon ), or perhaps "the spring of the pomegranate"; Ἐρωμώθ , Erōmō̇th , Ῥεμμών , Rhemmō̇n ): A city of Judah ( Joshua 15:32 ), "Ain and Rimmon"; ascribed to Simeon ( Joshua 19:7; 1 Chronicles 4:32 , "Ain, Rimmon"). In Nehemiah 11:29 mentioned as reinhabited after the Captivity. Zechariah 14:10 , runs: "All the land shall be made like the Arabah, from Geba to Rimmon, south of Jerusalem." It must have been a very southerly place. In the Eusebius, Onomasticon , ("Erimmon") it is described as a "very large village 16 miles South of Eleutheropolis." Kḣ Umm er Rumāmı̄n , 9 miles North of Beersheba is the usually accepted site. See PEF , 398; Sh Xxiv .
