(1): ( n.) That which is eminent or lofty; a high ground or place; a height.

(2): ( n.) A title of honor, especially applied to a cardinal in the Roman Catholic Church.

(3): ( n.) An elevated condition among men; a place or station above men in general, either in rank, office, or celebrity; social or moral loftiness; high rank; distinction; preferment.

a title of the Romish cardinals, first given to them by Urban VIII, to endow them with a rank equal to that of the spiritual princes of Europe, and of the grand masters of the knights of St. John and of Malta. (See Cardinals).
