Edward Stevenson
Edward Stevenson [1]
a minister of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, was born in Mason County, Ky., about 1797. He entered the Kentucky Conference in 1820, and remained in it till its division in 1846, when he connected himself with the Louisville Conference. He was a member of the celebrated General Conference of 1844, and also a member of the convention which met in Louisville in 1845, and organized the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. In 1846 he was elected missionary secretary and assistant book agent; to which latter office he was re-elected in 1850. In 1854 he was elected chief book agent, and in 1858 accepted the presidency of the Russellville Female Collegiate Institute, which position he filled until the time of his death, July 6, 1864.
