Webster's Dictionary

(1): ( n.) A part or portion; a share; hence, an indefinite quantity, degree, or extent, degree, or extent; as, a deal of time and trouble; a deal of cold.

(2): ( n.) The process of dealing cards to the players; also, the portion disturbed.

(3): ( n.) An arrangement to attain a desired result by a combination of interested parties; - applied to stock speculations and political bargains.

(4): ( n.) The division of a piece of timber made by sawing; a board or plank; particularly, a board or plank of fir or pine above seven inches in width, and exceeding six feet in length. If narrower than this, it is called a batten; if shorter, a deal end.

(5): ( n.) Wood of the pine or fir; as, a floor of deal.

(6): ( n.) To divide; to separate in portions; hence, to give in portions; to distribute; to bestow successively; - sometimes with out.

DEAL . A deal is a part or share. It is still in use in the phrase ‘a great deal’ or ‘a good deal.’ In AV [Note: Authorized Version.] occurs ‘tenth deal’ (RV [Note: Revised Version.] ‘tenth part’), the Heb. ‘issârôn being a measure used in meal-offerings. See Weights and Measures, II.

dēl  : The noun "deal" is not found in the Revised Version (British and American). The King James Version translation of עשׂרון , ‛issārōn , "the tenth deal" ( Exodus 29:40;  Leviticus 14:10 , et al.) is rendered uniformly "the tenth part" in the Revised Version (British and American) (see Weights And Measures ). The verb "to deal" often means "to apportion," "to distribute" (compare  2 Samuel 6:19;  1 Chronicles 16:3;  Isaiah 58:7;  Romans 12:3 ), but more frequently it is used in the sense of "to act" "to do," "to have transaction of any kind with." In the Psalms "to deal" always means "to confer benefit," "to deal bountifully," with the exception of  Psalm 105:25 , where it means "to deal subtly with." The expression "to deal," i.e. "to be engaged in," is not found in the Scriptures. The translation of συγχράομαι , sugchráomai , in  John 4:9 , "Jews have no dealings with Samaritans," conveys the idea that they have nothing in common.
