a French statesman and philosopher, was born at Paris in 1797, and died June 6, 1875. Besides Essais de Philosophie (Paris, 1834, 2 volumes) and Philosophie Religieuse (1864), he wrote biographies of Abelard (1845), Anselm of Canterbury (1853; Germ. transl. by Wurzbach, Ratisbon, 1854), and Bacon (1858).
