Cesi (or Cesio), Carlo

a historical painter and engraver of the Roman school, was born in 1626, at Antrodocco, in the Papal States, and studied under Pietro da Cortona. In the Quirinal, he painted The Judgment of Solomon; and others of his works are in the Rotonda and in Santa Maria Maggiore. He died in 1686. The following are some of his principal prints: The Virgin and Infant Jesus, with St. John; St. Andrew Led to Martyrdom, Prostrating himself before the Cross. See Hoefer, Nouv. Biog.
