a German prelate, lived. about the middle of the 11th century. Henry IV, emperor of Germany, made him bishop of Halberstadt in 1060, and in the following year sent him to reconcile certain differences which existed between Alexander II and Honorius II. Burchard, without regard to the wishes of his sovereign, .decided in favor of Alexander, and on his return to Germany took sides with the enemies of Henry IV, and waged a hard battle against him.
