BRA'VERY, n. Courage heroism undaunted spirit intrepidity gallantry fearlessness of danger often united with generosity or dignity of mind which despises meanness and cruelty, and disdains to take advantage of a vanquished enemy.

The duelist, in proving his bravery, shows that he thinks it suspected.

In the last four senses, this word is nearly antiquated.

brāv´ẽr - i  : תּפארה , tiph'ārāh or תּפארת , 'tı̄ph'ereth = "beauty," "glory," "honor" and "majesty," hence, "splendor of bravery." "The bravery of their tinkling ornaments" ( Isaiah 3:18 the King James Version), "the beauty of their anklets" (American Standard Revised Version). Compare bravado , bravurạ .

a term used in the Auth. Vers. only in its early sense offinery for the Heb. תַּפְאֶרֶת , Tipe'Reth, female ornament,  Isaiah 3:18. So in the Apocrypha ( Judith 10:4) " decked herself Bravely" stands for Gayly, as a rendering of Ἐκαλλωπίσατο , presented a fine appearance.
