Hastings' Dictionary of the Bible [1]

Berites .   2 Samuel 20:14 . The reading Bichrites is suggested, though not actually given, by LXX [Note: Septuagint.] and Vulg. [Note: Vulgate.] See art. Sheba.

Fausset's Bible Dictionary [2]

BERITES or Berim. A clan mentioned with Abel and Beth-Maachah in N. Palestine, visited by Joab in pursuing Sheba, son of Bichri ( 2 Samuel 20:14), "all the Berites." They followed him at his call.

Morrish Bible Dictionary [3]

People in the north of Palestine, possibly the descendants of Beri.  2 Samuel 20:14 .

International Standard Bible Encyclopedia [4]

bē´rı̄ts ( בּרים , bērı̄m  ; according to Klostermann and others, בּכרים , bikhrı̄m ): The word is found only once in the Old Testament ( 2 Samuel 20:14 ). The passage seems to be doubtful. The suggestion of Klostermann does not improve matters any; the other proposed reading, בּחרים , baḥūrı̄m (Vulgate, viri electi ), "choice young men," is to be preferred.
