( בֶּקִע , Be ' Ka, Cleft, i.e. part), a Jewish weight of early use ( Exodus 38:26), being half a SHEKEL (See Shekel) (q.v.), the unit of value
( Genesis 24:22, "half-shekel"). (See Metrology). Every Israelite paid one bekah (about 31 cents) yearly for the support and repairs of the Temple ( Exodus 30:13). (See Didrachma).
