The room set apart for sleeping in; being placed in the most retired position it became symbolical of the utmost privacy.  2 Kings 6:12;  Ecclesiastes 10:20 . Joash was hid in a bed-chamber, or a room adapted to that purpose, apparently connected with the temple.  2 Kings 11:2 . Travellers however, in the East, often have to spread their rugs on the floor of the same room in which the members of their host's family sleep, and the servants they bring with them sleep 'anywhere.' cf.  2 Samuel 11:9 .
