Hastings' Dictionary of the Bible [1]
Attharates ( 1Es 9:49 ). A corruption of the title tirshatha ; cf. Nehemiah 8:9 and art. Attharias.
International Standard Bible Encyclopedia [2]
a - thar´a - tēz : A title assigned to Nehemiah, probably by a later editor ( Nehemiah 8:9 ). The Septuagint omits the title; the Vulgate (Jerome's Latin Bible , 390-405 ad) gives "Athersatha"; the King James Version reads "Nehemiah, which is the Tirshatha." Tirshatha is the Persian title for a local or provincial governor ( Nehemiah 8:9 = 1 Esdras 9:49). See Tirshatha .

( Ἀτθαράτης ), given ( 1 Esdras 9:49) as a person's name; evidently by a mistake of the translator, (See Atharias) for the title TIRSHATHA (See Tirshatha) (q.v.) of the original text ( Nehemiah 8:9).
