( Ἀμπλίας ), a Christian at Rome, mentioned by Paul as one whom he particularly loved ( Romans 16:8), A.D. 55. It is not known with certainty who Amplias was; but the Greeks say that he was ordained bishop of Odypopolis, in Moesia, by the Apostle Andrew, and was an apostolical person, at least one of the seventy-two disciples, and a martyr. His festival, in the Greek calendar, is observed Oct. 31.
